Ex-boyfriend throws woman’s dog off third-story balcony ‘to spite her’

Springfield, MO (KCTV) – A Kansas City mother is horrified after her daughter’s dog was killed, thrown from a third-story balcony.

Now, she fears for her daughter’s safety.

“Anyone that is capable of doing this to an innocent little guy, like Oliver, and not even think twice about it, she has feared that something might happen to her,” Debbie Ervie said.

She got the call from her daughter over the weekend after she said her ex-boyfriend killed the puppy to spite her.

“My heart just sank. I just didn’t know … I was afraid to … and hearing her hysterical, it just, it broke my heart that she was two-and-a-half hours away from me, and I can’t get to her immediately,” Ervie said.

Her daughter, Gabby, is a student at Missouri State University in Springfield.

The man accused of killing her dog to spite her is William “Trip” Rabourn III.

According to court documents, they had a sort-of romance. He got handsy at a party. Then she ditched him, leaving him at a gas station without a ride.

That was when the police statement says he went to her apartment and kicked the door in, grabbed Oliver, her Maltese-poodle mix, and walked to a third-story hall window.

Police said he threw the dog overhand out of the window, a distance of 46 feet.

Ervie says she keeps thinking about those few seconds before the dog’s death.

“It hurts. I just want to hold him one more time and say it wasn’t his fault,” she said. “It is going to be hard to get over, because he did mean so much to our family and my daughter.”

Her daughter goes back to Springfield next week and plans to continue going to school there, but she has moved out of her studio apartment and will be staying with roommates.
