The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) is undergoing its refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipbuilding.
On May 31st, a new lower main mast section, which serves as the platform for the ship’s various ship sensors and radars, was placed on the ship.
According to Huntington Ingalls, a team of about 30 shipbuilders, including ship fitters, shipwrights, welders, riggers and crane operators, worked to place the 34-foot-tall, 38-short-ton structure on the aircraft carrier.
The structure lift, handled using the 310-ton gantry crane that straddles dry docks 10 and 11, is one of hundreds of crane lifts that will be accomplished during USS Abraham Lincoln’s RCOH.
