Hampton, Va. – Hampton police rescued a woman who was submerged in the Chesapeake Bay over the weekend, according to a Facebook post from the Hampton Police Department.

The following message was posted on the Hampton Police Facebook Page:

“Being a Police Officer means never knowing what will happen on any given work day. We really want to share with you a prime example as to why we have some of the best Police Officers in the world.

Last night at around 7 o’clock, HPD received a call about a distraught female submerged in the Chesapeake Bay. It was later revealed that she was intentionally attempting to drown herself. Without hesitation, Officer(s) Trowbridge, Ramirez, and McLaughlin removed their duty belts and jumped into the bay… all while still wearing their uniforms.

Due to the Officers quick response and heroic actions they were able to rescue the Citizen and get her the help that she needed by way of the Community Services Board.

Join us in congratulating these Officers on a JOB WELL DONE!”
