Hampton, Va. - A woman has died after police say she was fatally shot on Thursday evening.

She's been identified as Katherine Ann Fleming.

Police received calls about a woman who was unconscious and when they arrived on the scene, they saw Fleming outside of her home on Shawen Drive suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead at around 7:17 p.m.

Neighbors tell NewsChannel 3 that Fleming lived alone in the home. They recall hearing a loud bang that sounded like a tire exploding at the time of the shooting. They say two girls walking down the street discovered her body outside by the cars in the parking lot.

They say they did not hear a car speeding off nor did they see anyone running away from the scene.

Police say 65-year-old Fleming was shot once.
