UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm warning issued for Virginia Beach now expired

Update: This warning has now expired. 

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Virginia Beach until 4:45 p.m.

These storms are capable of producing strong winds in excess of 60 mph, heavy rains and penny size hail. Strong winds were located along a line extending from Virginia Wesleyan College to Lynnhaven in Virginia Beach. It is moving northeast at 30 mph.

In addition to the damaging winds, these storm can also produce very dangerous lightning. Be sure to move indoors immediately. Remember that lightning is one of nature’s leading killers. If you can hear thunder, you’re close enough to be hit by lightning.

These storms can also produce torrential rainfall. This could lead to flash flooding.
