Cheriton, Va. - A Charlottesville man vacationing with his family at Cherrystone Family Camping Resort in Cape Charles, Virginia recalls what he saw Thursday morning as a possible tornado ripped through the area.
"We were taking the dogs for a morning walk. I started packing - then it started coming down, buckets of rain, wind, and baseball sized hail."
The family was in a camper trailer. The man sent his wife and son to the emergency shelter out back.
He then describes what he saw outside:
"It was devastation everywhere. Trailers upside down, trailers destroyed. People yelling, 'help me, help me'. And we went towards where the screaming and yelling were, and there was a tree that had fallen across a tent full of children. That's where the fatalities occurred. From the tent with children."
Nadeen Yanes will have more on this story, today starting First at Four.
