A woman was injured after an attempted purse snatching in Williamsburg on Sunday.

Williamsburg Police say they responded to the 3000 block of Richmond Road around 3:15 p.m. and spoke with the victim.

She told police that she and a friend had been riding bicycles westbound on Richmond Road when a black male in his mid-20s stepped out and commanded her to stop.

The man then engaged the victim and her friend in conversation while a white male, also appearing to be in his mid-20s, snuck up behind them and tried to take the victim’s purse, pulling her to the ground.

When the purse’s strap broke, both men ran and then fled in an unknown vehicle parked nearby.

The victim suffered a broken finger as a result of falling from the bike. Her friend was not injured.
