The nine ‘fattest’ chain restaurant meals

Nine chain restaurant meals have been named to the 2014 Xtreme Eating Awards, a list released annually by the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

The list aims to bring attention to meals that are high in calories, saturated fat, sodium and sugar. Nearly all of this year’s featured meals have at least 2,000 calories.

Here are some of the “award winning” meals:

Bruléed French Toast – The Cheesecake Factory: 2,780 calories, 93 grams of saturated fat (a week’s worth), 2,230 milligrams of sodium and 24 teaspoons of sugar (three days’ worth). “To neutralize the calories in your brunch, you’d have to swim laps for seven hours.” Read more.

Monster Meal – Red Robin Gourmet Burgers: The entire meal delivers 3,540 calories (two days’ worth), 69 grams of saturated fat, 6,280 milligrams of sodium (four days’ worth) and 38 teaspoons of added sugar in the milkshake. “It’s like eating seven McDonald’s Double Cheeseburgers washed down with a quart of Coke.” Read more.

“The Big Slab” of ribs – Famous Dave’s: 2,770 calories, 54 grams of saturated fat and 4,320 milligrams of sodium.

Farfalle with Chicken and Roasted Garlic – Cheesecake Factory: 2,410 calories, 63 grams of saturated fat and 1,370 milligrams of sodium.

Prime New York Steak Contadina style – Maggiano’s Little Italy: 2,420 calories, 66 grams of saturated fat and 5,620 milligrams of sodium.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Cheesecake – Cheesecake Factory: 1,500 calories, 43 grams of saturated fat, 21 teaspoons of sugar.

Big Hook Up Platter – Joe’s Crab Shack: 3,280 calories, 50 grams of saturated fat, 7,610 milligrams of sodium.

Signature Deep Dish Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza – BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse: 2,160 calories, 30 grams of saturated fat, and 4,680 milligrams of sodium.

Chevys Super Cinco Combo – Chevys Fresh Mex: 1,920 calories, 36 grams of saturated fat, and 3,950 milligrams of sodium.
