Smokey Bear celebrates his 70th birthday in Norfolk

Norfolk, Va.- Smokey Bear, the beloved public service icon, turned 70 on Saturday.

He celebrated with an appearance at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk.

The museum displayed an exhibit featuring paintings by the artist who drew Smokey Bear for the U.S Forest Service.

With free admission, visitors got to take pictures with Smokey and enjoy birthday cake- without candles!

Smokey Bear has helped reduce the number of acres lost annually to wildfires from 22 million to just over 8 million with his famous slogan, "Remember, only you can prevent forest fires."

This is the first time the exhibit has been on public display and it will be at the Chrysler Museum through February.
