Newport News, Va. – Crews put out a house fire in Newport News on Tuesday after they say lightning struck close to the home.

This happened in the 400 block of Wyn Drive. Dispatch received calls about the fire at 6:19 p.m. and crews arrived just moments later.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the garage. Crews started to put the fire out inside and conducted a search.

No one was injured and the fire was under control at 6:27 p.m.

Officials say the cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature. They say the lightning hit near the area of the electrical panel box.

There was one adult and four children inside of the home.

The Red Cross is now helping the family.
