Norfolk, Va. – A man was robbed at gunpoint early Monday in the Ghent section of Norfolk.

According to police, the robbery happened around 3 a.m. in the 700 block of Graydon Ave., which is near Colley Ave.

The victim tells NewsChannel 3 a man put a gun to the side of his face, telling him repeatedly to get on the ground.

The robber then took the victim’s book bag and walked off with it towards Hampton Blvd.

This robbery comes shortly after several others.  According to a Norfolk Police Dept. online crime mapping program, there have been five other robberies in the Ghent area since July 26.

NewsChannel 3 spoke to the victims from one of those robberies as well.  A couple says they were walking on Core Ave., which runs parallel to Colley.  It was August 2 just before 9 p.m.

The robber pointed a gun at the man’s stomach and demanded his girlfriend’s purse.

The woman who was robbed says she is afraid to leave her house now.  Her boyfriend says he traded in his car a few days after the robbery; the keys to his old car had been in the purse and he was afraid to still have it with the robber on the loose.

According to the crime-mapping program, here’s a list of the recent robberies:

  • July 26, Saturday, at 4:32 a.m. in the 1000 block of Harrington Ave.
  • August 2, Saturday, at 9 p.m. in the 1700 block of Core Ave.
  • August 6, Wednesday, at 4:08 p.m. in the 1300 block of Debree Ave.
  • August 12, Tuesday, at 11:20 p.m. in the 1500 block of Core Ave.
  • August 14, Thursday, at 1:32 p.m. in the 700 block of Westover Ave.

Police say they are still looking for the robber from the Graydon Ave. case.  We are waiting to hear back about whether or not there have been any arrests in the other cases.
