A close encounter with death - after a koala bear fell from a tree.

Meet "Sean" - the lovable koala bear named after the firefighter who saved his life.

Sean was hit by a car, then took refuge in a tree.

When officials found him, he was unresponsive.

They got the bear down from the tree and performed CPR.

The bear is recovering at a wildlife facility in Australia, but he needs a costly surgery to fully recover.

Michelle Thomas, who gave the koala mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, says Sean is in need of a complex surgery after medical examiners found that he has a cataract on one eye.

Thomas, who is currently caring for the koala, is a licensed volunteer for a wildlife center in Australia. She says the surgery will cost between $10,000 and $13,000 Australian dollars.
