One arrested after report of suspicious men near Newport News playground

Newport News, Va. – Newport News Police were able to arrest one man on Sunday after investigating a report of two suspicious men in dark clothing near a playground.

Police say they responded to the 800 block of 33rd Street just after 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 24th.

Officers located the two subjects and attempted to speak to them but one of them took off running.

Officers caught the man behind Huntington Middle School. He was identified as 19-year-old Daquan Lamont Brown.

Police say Brown was wearing gloves and a rolled up mask on his head. Officers also recovered duct tape that had been discarded by Brown while he was running.

Brown has been charged with trespassing after being forbidden, trespassing on school property, and possession of burglary tools.
