Two tricycles sit on the porch of a Norfolk home Friday afternoon, representing happier times when kids were playing. But tonight, the family has lost a two year old boy, who was found dead inside the home around 11 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say the mother called just minutes before officers arrived, saying the toddler was having trouble breathing. Police say he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Norfolk Police Detective’s Division responded and is handling the investigation. They are not actively searching for suspects and are investigating this incident as an "undetermined death".

Neighbors on Druid Circle were stunned by the news on Friday.

"I was just shocked, " said Ellen Murphy. "They don't bother anybody, everytime you see them they are just happy go lucky. I've seen them a few times, the mother and she's like any other parent just has their babies and one of them is gone, it's just shocking."

No one has been taken into custody, but police say the mother did speak to detectives this morning.

Police say a key part in their investigation will be  the results of the boy's autopsy, that will determine the exact cause of death. Those results could help to determine whether anyone will be charged.

The autopsy was scheduled to be done by Friday.
