Man arrested in Newport News stabbing

Newport News, Va. – A man has been arrested after police say he stabbed someone inside of a Newport News apartment on Friday night.

This happened in the 2600 block of West Avenue.

Calls came in about the stabbing at around 7:15 p.m.

Once on the scene, police found a 44-year-old man who had been stabbed in the abdomen.

A suspect was then arrested. Police say the two men were arguing and it became physical. One was stabbed and the other had a head injury.

Both were treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect has been identified as 60-year-old Sherman Crews. He has been charged with one count of malicious wounding.
