Hampton, Va. - A small dog was attacked and killed by three loose Pit Bulls in Hampton on Friday morning.

Hampton Police say the owner of a Pomeranian was walking in the 100 block of W. Kelly Avenue when the dog was attacked by the three loose Pit Bulls.

The owner of the Pomeranian was not injured. The Pomeranian, named 'Happy,' did not survive the attack. The dog's owner, Aline Blacknall, said she was walking Happy next to her house when the three Pit Bulls attacked. "I tried to shield the dog under my blouse, but I couldn't do it because the big dog just reached up and snatched him," she said. The dogs then dragged Happy up the street, until a neighbor brought him back to her. Happy died a short time later.

Animal Control responded and was able to locate all three Pit Bulls - two of which were still loose, while the third was found fenced in the area where it belongs.

All three Pit Bulls are being quarantined and the investigation is continuing. The owner of all three Pit Bulls has been identified but no charges have been filed at this time.

Shawn Anderson, a neighbor, said the Pit Bulls were normally friendly. "I always see them and I go over there and pet them. All the kids up and down here pet them. Like I said, it's just a shocker to me," he said.
