Suffolk, Va. – On Wednesday, the Navy Exchange Service Command building had to be evacuated after an employee had a reaction to a chemical.

This happened at the CenterPoint Intermodal Center in the 1000 block of Kenyon Court.

Calls came in at 11:52 a.m. Police say a man came into contact with an unknown chemical at the base of a pallet after taking boxes from a pallet in the warehouse. His hands were affected by the chemical and he was then taken to Sentara Obici Hospital to be treated.

State Police closed the entrance to the facility and the building. They also evacuated 150 employees as a precautionary measure.

Crews tested the substance and they were able to rule out any potential terrorist activity. A sample was also sent to Richmond for more testing.

The building is still closed and will not reopen until tomorrow after more testing.
