York County, Va. – A father has been charged after deputies say he was found asleep while his two children were outside wandering alone.

On September 11 at 1 p.m., deputies responded to the 2900 block of Kiln Creek Parkway for a report of a 2-year-old and 4-year-old wandering around without supervision.

The 2-year-old was only wearing a diaper and the 4-year-old was only wearing a t-shirt and a diaper, according to Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

The father was found asleep at his home in the 100 block of Hedgerow Lane in Yorktown.

Allen M. Burke was arrested and charged with two counts of felony child neglect.

The children were unharmed. Child Protective Services was called and responded to the situation, officials say.

Neighbors tell NewsChannel 3 that this isn’t the first time this has happened.

“I know there have been instances in the past for at least one of the children have been roaming around in the street and the police were called and the very next day the same thing happened at another neighbors house and the police were back,” says one neighbor.

Deputies tell Newschannel 3 that Burke and the children’s mother was arrested just three weeks ago after the kids were found wandering another park. They were charged with two counts each of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
