Burke, Va- One northern Virginian woman proved that not even her own graduation could keep her away from true love.
Jane Pickett was supposed to graduate from her New York-based high school 75 years ago, but got married instead. This weekend, 93-year-old Pickett finally got her diploma from Rye Country Day School in Rye, NY.
Pickett’s daughter, Sharon Mills, reached out to Pickett’s school and arraigned the whole ceremony.
“Cousins came into town. Kids came home from college. But she had absolutely no idea this is what we were doing for her.” Mills said.
The school sent Pickett a diploma, along with a graduation sash and other gifts.
