Suffolk courthouse reopens following bomb threat

Suffolk, Va. – The Godwin Courts Building reopened to staff and citizens at 10:30 a.m. following a bomb threat Wednesday morning.

The bomb threat at the Godwin Courts Building, located at 150 North Main Street, caused police to close several streets around the building. Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and are investigating the threat. Emergency Communications was made aware of the threat at 9:45 a.m. The building was evacuated.

The 100 block of East Washington Street, 100 block of Bank Street, 100 block of North Commerce Street, and the 100 block of North Main Street, which runs in front of the building, were temporarily closed due to the investigation.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the investigation.
