Virginia Beach, Va. - A Virginia Beach man will spend 50 years behind bars for raping and robbing a woman three years ago.

Rolando Goodman was sentenced in Virginia Beach Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

It was in September of 2011 when prosecutors say Goodman and another man, William Cannon, went to an apartment complex off of Northampton Blvd. looking for someone to rob.

After waiting for more than half an hour, they spotted a woman walking alone to her apartment.

Goodman put a gun to her head and forced her inside her apartment where he tied her up and raped her, while Cannon helped himself to electronics and jewelry.

At one point, Cannon walked into the room where the woman was being sexually assaulted, laughed and told Goodman to hurry up.

When police arrested Goodman, he still had the woman's class ring in his pocket which he had taken right off her hand.

Goodman pleaded guilty last year to rape, robbery and other charges.

During his sentencing Wednesday, Goodman apologized and said he takes full responsibility, while at the same time, blaming drugs, alcohol and peer-pressure.

Prosecutors painted a different picture, though, saying in evaluations he had no remorse and attempted to blame his co-defendant.

They also said he has a criminal past going back more than a decade, which included convictions for grand larceny, indecent exposure and nine probation violations.

In the end, the judge sentenced Goodman to 63 years in prison, but suspended 13.  That means he'll serve 50 years behind bars.

Cannon, who had a jury trial, was sentenced Tuesday to 58 years.
