People Taking Action: ‘This young lady has a heart of gold. She is selfless, always promoting positive lifestyles for our youth’

A huge crowd of family and friends was on hand right outside of Norfolk's Titustown Recreation Center. Angel Williams knew something was up.

It was Connie Harris who sent us an email about Angel.

"This young lady has a heart of gold. She is selfless, always promoting positive lifestyles for our youth," she wrote.

All the sports programs, from football to soccer to baseball, are coordinated through Angel Williams, the Titustown Athletic Association president. She's in charge of organizing and raising money for the equipment and everything that`s needed for those seasons. It's all volunteer. But it sounds like a full-time job, which she responded with a laugh, "It is after my full-time job. It`s my second full-time job but I love it."

Connie Harris says, "I just love her. She`s just a sweetheart and she`s always behind the scenes; she never complains."

In addition to her duties at the rec center, Angel is also busy taking action with her church and also with breast cancer awareness. For all those reasons, we presented her with a People Taking Action award, plus a $100 Visa gift card from our community sponsor Southern Bank.

"I'm speechless, this is truly an honor."

Even though Angel doesn't have any kids playing in the sports programs, she says the reaction from the other children is priceless. "The smiles on their faces, the smiles on their faces."
