Portsmouth, Va. – An officer had to be taken to the hospital on Tuesday after police say a woman driving a van crashed into the back of a marked police car.
The accident happened in the 2000 block of Frederick Blvd. westbound. Calls came in at around 2:40 p.m. about the incident.
Police tell NewsChannel 3 a police vehicle had the emergency lights on and was slowing down when the van slammed into the back of the car. The trunk was heavily damaged. The officer had to be taken out of the vehicle after the doors jammed after the accident.
The officer complained about head and back pain and was taken to the hospital. The driver says she was experiencing chest pains and she was also taken to the hospital. Police say charges are pending against the driver.
