Stores will open even earlier on Thanksgiving Day this year, experts say

Posted

Black Friday weekend may completely takeover Thanksgiving this year, according to some retail industry experts.

Over the past few years, the after-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy has started earlier and earlier with some stores opening as early as 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day last year.

Experts say some stores could stay open all day on Thanksgiving Day this year.

“It’s inevitable to see them open all day or even earlier than last year,” Joel Bines, managing director and co-leader of consulting firm AlixPartners’ retail practice, told the Post-Crescent.

Because many retailers are struggling to find ways to boost their bottom line, Thanksgiving could be seen as an opportunity to close the financial gap.

Stores likely will not announce their Thanksgiving plans until mid-to-late October.

What do you think? Should stores be open on Thanksgiving? Or should they allow employees to enjoy the holiday with their family?
