Salt Lake City, UT (KSTU) — A man is in custody after stabbing a restaurant employee who did not immediately give him a pen when he asked for it, police said Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., 32-year-old Kristopher Davis walked into a Mexican food restaurant located at 775 W. North Temple, and asked the clerk for a pen, said Lt. Mike Ross with the Salt Lake City Police Department.

When the clerk told the suspect to wait, Davis allegedly slapped the employee in the face. Police said that as the employee attempted to walk the man out of the building, Davis stabbed the clerk twice in the stomach.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Davis was found about 15 minutes after the incident at a hotel about a half of a block away. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail and faces a charge of aggravated assault, which is a second-degree felony.
