UPDATE: Man arrested in connection to Elizabeth City State University shooting

UPDATE: A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred on the Elizabeth City State University campus. Police have arrested and charged Joshua David Murrill who is facing charges including discharging a firearm on educational property, possession of a gun on educational property, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and assault by pointing a gun. 

Police there say this is an isolated event that followed a conflict that occurred back in the summer. 

Murrill has also been charged with going armed to the terror of the people, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Elizabeth City, North Carolina – Police in Elizabeth City are now investigating after they say shots were fired on the campus of Elizabeth City State University.

ECSU officials say this happened near the outdoor classroom which is by the center of the Elizabeth City State University campus.

At around 1:14 p.m., University Police sent out an alert to students and employees about the incident.

A suspect and the car involved have been located by police there.

Police are not releasing the suspect’s name or any other details about this case.

The campus is not on lockdown and is safe for routine operation.
