UPDATE: Man arrested in connection to Elizabeth City Break Ins

UPDATE:  Police have now arrested a man in connection to several break-ins in the area. 

They’ve arrested and charged Raymond Scott of 407 West Broad Street. He has been charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods/property, resist, delay, obstruct, speed to elude arrest, driving while license  revoked and injury personal  property. 

He has been taken to Albemarle District Jail and was placed under a $35,000. 00 secured bond. 

Police are now following more leads and suspects right now. They say more charges are coming. 

Elizabeth City, NC – Police in Elizabeth City are warning citizens to be extra careful after an abnormal number of break-ins in the area.

They say there have been about 78 reported break ins including residential and vehicles.

Crooks have been going into homes when the homeowner is not there. Police say this is happening both at night and during the day.

Suspects have been going into homes through the back doors and they’ve been going through unlocked cars, police say.

Although police have collected evidence, they still need your help to track down the culprits.

They are urging citizens to call them when they see something suspicious. They are hoping even the smallest bit of information could help them solve this case.

In addition to reporting anything out of the ordinary, they are also encouraging residents to take proactive steps to protect themselves such as installing surveillance cameras, alarms, keeping windows and doors locked when you’re not home, putting in window treatments to stop criminals from looking inside of your home, and keep valuable property out of sight.
