ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A high school runner from western North Carolina went the distance – despite a broken leg.
Connor Callihan was running a cross-country race when he began to feel pain in his leg, WLOS reported.
Connor ignored it for most of the race, but was just five feet from the finish line when he heard a snap and fell.
He broke his leg in three places, but somehow managed to cross the finish line.
“I have to finish. I’m doing this for my team,” Connor said. “My team will lose a place in the standings if I don’t.”
Connor was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon after having two rods surgically inserted into his leg.
His goal is to run again in March.
