Chesapeake, Va. – When you hear of Election Day, you probably immediately go back to visions of long lines like the last presidential election and waiting for hours to cast your ballot.

But today we learned that you could avoid those lines and it was a breeze by absentee voting.

The only way you can do so is if you have a legitimate reason you will be absent on Election Day.

Chesapeake registrar Al Spradlin says many people get confused thinking there’s early voting, but not in Virginia so they have to have come up with a reason before voting absentee.

It’s all about the honor system.

“We think if you are coming in here, you are exercising your right to vote and we know because of that you are probably legitimate,” says Spradlin.

He says it’s easy.

The registrar told NewsChannel 3 that it’s possible to vote in less than 10 minutes and we put that to the test today.

That turned out to be true. It took only about four minutes for the whole process.
