Norfolk, Va. – A Norfolk elementary school was on lockdown for about 20 minutes on Friday as police arrested a man on drug charges who had run onto school property during a pursuit.
Norfolk Police say just after 11:00 a.m., Vice and Narcotics Investigators were attempting to arrest 22-year-old Stanley Ruffin near Oceanair Elementary School.
Ruffin ran from police and he was chased onto the school’s back field where he was apprehended.
An officer responded to the school to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty and staff until police activity cleared from the area.
Ruffin has been charged with Distribution of Heroin, Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Distribute Heroin, Possession of Heroin within 1,000 feet of a School, and Concealed Weapon. He is currently being held at the Norfolk City Jail.
