Norfolk, Va. - The Norfolk General District Court building will be closed the rest of the day due to high levels of carbon monoxide, fire officials tell NewsChannel 3.

Norfolk fire units responded to the Norfolk General District Court building after hearing reports of an odor.

Carbon monoxide from a generator entered the building, according to the Norfolk Clerk of Court. The building reportedly smelled like car exhaust, and people complained, NewsChannel 3 has learned.

Crews will need to ventilate the building; 75-80 inmates were in court holding cells and moved back to the jail, officials say.

Crews are on the scene, investigating.
