This is one very lucky porcupine.
Guides at the Londolozi Game Reserve in Kruger National Park in South Africa captured this amazing scene as a pride of 17 lions came across a porcupine.
The porcupine began to shake its tail – called a rattle – as a warning. Then it began to run backwards into any lion that got too close, a common defense mechanism for the animal, according to the park’s blog.
The lions eventually decided the little guy was too much work to make dinner and moved on, while the porcupine disappeared into the night.
