Norfolk, Va. – Crews responded to a gas leak on Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, according to Navy officials.

The leak was deemed secure as of 1:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon; operations are now back to normal.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. on Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, a contractor performing renovations to Bldg. 3364, a vacant Child Development Center (CDC), struck a line causing the gas leak.

As a precautionary measure, eight children and three staff workers from the nearby 24/7 CDC were relocated to the main CDC.

No injuries were reported and parents of the relocated children were notified.

The traffic in the vicinity of Gator Blvd. and A Street was re-routed. Base operations were not otherwise affected.

Emergency response personnel responded to the scene, as well as Virginia Natural Gas.

The incident is under investigation.
