A Chicago-area photographer and bird enthusiast captured an unusual sighting recently — an owl swimming in Lake Michigan.
Steve Spitzer was at Loyola Park Beach in Chicago’s Rogers Park when he saw something in the lake, according to WGNtv.com.
Another person reportedly told Spitzer that it was a Great Horned Owl. It had been forced down into the lake after being attacked by two Peregrine Falcons.
Spitzer shot video and took pictures of the owl as it swam towards the shore.
Spitzer said bird rescue was called to the scene, but the owl flew away.
