Don’t miss your chance for a “Wicked” experience at Norfolk’s Chrysler Hall

Norfolk, Va. – You’ll never look at the Wizard of Oz quite the same again after you’ve experienced the spectacular Broadway production “Wicked.”

Everything you thought you knew about this classic gets turned upside down and you’ll have several “oh my” moments as you discover some of the most unlikely relationships between familiar characters.

This brilliantly written untold story of the wicked witch of the west, based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, gives audiences a glimpse into the life of a woman born a slightly different hue than her peers.

It’s not easy being green, but actress Laurel Harris’ flawless performance as Elphaba sure makes it look that way. She does an excellent job of drawing fans into the tragic story of the wicked witch, who appears to be just like any other teen girl learning to navigate her way through life.

Elphaba is surprisingly quirky yet witty which allows audiences to cast away their original thoughts of the wicked witch of the west as a villain, and they see a different side of her as a person with real problems and emotions.  Fans are shocked when they find themselves actually sympathizing with an “evil” witch and they’re even more taken aback when they begin to root for her.

Elphaba’s purpose in her life is more than taking care of flying monkeys, chasing ruby slippers and terrorizing Munchkin Land. Her reason for becoming “evil” is quite noble and one rooted in love.

She had some help along the way from someone who has always been known as her worst enemy—Glenda the somewhat “good” witch.

Carrie St. Louis portrays Glinda the good witch, who most remember as the floating, glittery symbol of everything good and pure in the movie. In “Wicked” she takes on an entirely different role. She’s the annoying, bratty school girl who has it all and seeks perfection, that is until she meets Elphaba.

St. Louis and Harris are masterful at showing the contrast between the two characters while also allowing audiences to see the two have more in common than they even realize.

Your ears will be in for quite a treat as you enjoy the music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz beautifully coupled with this talented cast’s amazing vocals.

If you haven’t made plans to see this production yet, there’s still time to purchase tickets.
