A Blue Star Memorial marker was dedicated at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth on Monday.
The Blue Star Memorial program was developed in 1945 by the National Garden Clubs, Inc. to pay tribune to the Armed Forces that defended our country during 1941.
The star first became a standard symbol on dedicated Blue Star Highways in the United States and has since expanded to include highways, parks, veterans' facilities, national cemeteries and gardens.
"Cedar Grove Cemetery was selected because we wanted a Portsmouth location which would be visible, have historic significance, and reflect veterans. This does all that," says Mary Sue Floyd, President of the Portsmouth Area Council of Garden Clubs.
"We were just delighted for our veterans to be remembered and for Cedar Grove Cemetery to be part of the memory," said Mayor Kenny Wright.
