WEATHER BLOG: Still feeling the impacts of the Nor’easter moving up the coast

Posted

The Nor’easter is moving up the East Coast but we are still feeling the impacts today.

Like yesterday morning, we will see areas of coastal flooding. High tides will run similar to yesterday morning, putting many locations in the “minor” flood stage.

High tide is between 10 AM and 11 AM for Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore.  Tides should return back to near normal for the rest of the week as the low continues up the coast.

Strong winds will continue today but with a shift in direction. Expect more of a northwest wind today but still sustained at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to near 30 mph, especially for coastal areas this morning. It will still be breezy on Wednesday as the winds very gradually start to relax.

Expect overcast skies today with showers. Most of the rain will be very light, in the form of mist and drizzle. A few scattered showers will mix in but rainfall totals for today will be low.

The combination of clouds, showers and wind will make for a gloomy and cold day. Temperatures will rain in the mid 40s for most of today with wind chill values in the mid to upper 30s. Keep in mind, our normal high temperature for this time of year is in the mid 50s.

Here’s the good news! At least we are not seeing the same Nor’easter impacts as much of the Northeast. They are expecting more wind, a lot more rain coupled with wet snow and even areas of ice mixing in.

More good news! Locally, the rest of the work week and weekend will feature plenty of sunshine and at least a small warming trend.
