Newport News, Va. - Newport News police need you to take action to help find the person who shot a 15-year old girl as she was leaving a skating rink around 11 o'clock Sunday night.

Detectives released a surveillance video that shows the car the teen was in with a family member pulling away. As they were leaving, the video shows another car come from behind the parking lot and pull up right behind them. Police say seconds later, a person inside that car started shooting.

Police didn't say how many shots were fired or where the teen was shot, but they did say she is going to be okay.

The manager of the Peninsula Family Skating Center, Cindy Philpott, says the shooting happened about an hour after the rink closed for the night and she had no clue of what went down until police called her the next day.

"It was the next morning we got a call from the officer and I was like 'Oh my God!'" said Philpott. "We are hoping it doesn't happen again, nothing like this has ever happened. We are a family establishment and we have a good time, so please don't hold this against us."

Police hope you take a look at the surveillance video to see if you recognize the car or know the shooter inside. If you do, take action against crime and call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
