Suffolk, Va. – Suffolk Fire & Rescue are investigating after a home caught fire in the early morning hours on Saturday.

Firefighters responded to the fire in the 300 block of Spruce Street just after 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

Firefighters say when they arrived on scene the first unit saw flames coming from the rear of the home all the way up to the second floor.

It took firefighters 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

Two people were home at the time of the fire, but they were able to evacuate safely before firefighters arrived.

The home received significant damage to the back of the structure, inside and out, as well as smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.

Firefighters say the fire also damaged the exterior siding of a neighbor’s home as well.
