Dare County, N.C. (WTKR) - Leaders in Dare County are looking to the future with the Dare County Comprehensive Transportation Plan.
A draft of the plan, which looks to cover transportation needs through the year 2040, includes two major recommendations.
The first, widening US 64 to a four-lane expressway from Tyrrell County to US 264.
The second, improving US 158 to create a 4-lane divided boulevard from US 64 to the Currituck County line.
The Comprehensive Transportation Plan encompasses Manteo, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, South Shores, Kitty Hawk and Duck.
It began in July 2011 as a cooperation between NCDOT's Transportation Planning Branch and the county.
