It's a new year and there's a new president on the job at Virginia State University.
Dr. Pamela Hammond is now serving as interim president.
She's the first woman to ever hold the position at the school.
Former President Keith Miller officially stepped down on Wednesday, in the wake of decreasing enrollment and financial issues at the university.
Hammond is expected to serve for at least the rest of the school year.
