Norfolk, Va. - Meet the first baby born in Hampton Roads in 2015!
Cassidy Marie Monahan was born at 12:03 a.m. on January 1st at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk.
Parents Francis and Jennifer haven’t been able to take their eyes off their 8-pound, 12-ounce baby girl since she was born. That moment is more than five years in the making.
“You never expect to have to try for so long and so hard. It just makes it even more surreal when it actually happens,” Jennifer says.
The Monahan’s had been trying for a baby since November of 2009. They spent thousands of dollars on five rounds of in-vitro fertilization with nothing to show for.
“My husband and I, at different points in the journey, were in different places with our acceptance in the fact it might not happen," Jennifer says.
But it did happen – finally. And it was without any help from the drugs.
“She’s like, I took two pregnancy tests and they both came back positive. And I was like, what?! She said I’m scared, I don’t know what to do,” Francis says.
Cassidy will come home from the hospital on Friday for the first time. And while it has been a hard process for the Monahan’s, Jennifer says they’re not ruling out having more children.
