Portsmouth opens warming shelters

Portsmouth, Va. –  During the winter months the City of Portsmouth designates some public facilities as Warming Centers when the temperatures fall dangerously low.  A Warming Center is a place where people can get warm during a cold emergency.  The City’s Warming Centers opened at 12 p.m. Wednesday and will be open Thursday, January 8th, and Friday, January 9th, as follow

City Hall Lobby – 801 Crawford Street; 8:30 until 5 p.m.

Social Services – 1701 High Street; 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Senior Station – 3500 Clifford Street; 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Portsmouth Public Library – branches open at 10 a.m.

Main Library – 601 Court Street

Churchland Library – 4934 High Street West

Cradock Library- closed Friday- 28 Prospect Parkway

Manor Library –closed Friday- 1401 Elmhurst Lane
