Chesapeake, Va. – A Chesapeake man was arrested and charged after a chase and crash early Friday morning.

A Virginia State Police trooper conducting radar on I-464 around 12:30 a.m. witnessed a black, 4-door Dodge driving 79 mph in a 60 mph zone.

The trooper initiated sirens and lights in an effort to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. The driver exited off I-464 and onto South Military Highway, heading northbound.

Another trooper set himself on the right shoulder of Military Highway, further down the road in anticipation of the suspect’s approach.

As the suspect came over the hill, he lost control and swerved across the traffic lanes and hit the trooper’s vehicle from behind. The impact pushed the trooper’s vehicle into the road, where it was hit a second time.

The suspect’s vehicle ran off the road and hit a pole.

The trooper and the suspect were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was identified as Mario Lamont Ferebee. He was released from the hospital and into the custody of Virginia State Police before being taken to the Norfolk City Jail.

He was charged with DUI and felony elude, receiving no bond.
