Man shot, killed after firing rifle at Chesapeake Police officers

Chesapeake, Va. - A man was shot by police and later died after he allegedly used a rifle to fire towards officers as they responded to a call about an attempted suicide on Wednesday night.

This happened in the 1100 block of Sir Gawaine Drive.

Calls came in at around 8:15 p.m.

Once units arrived on the scene, they found a man in the middle of the street. When they approached him, he fired shots at the officers, officials say.  The officers returned fire and hit the man. The man was taken to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center for treatment where he later died as a result of his injuries.

He has been identified as 34-year-old Mario Jordan.

The officer was unharmed. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
