Richmond, Va. - Virginia is on the verge of getting results for Jonathan Montgomery.
He spent four of the prime years of his life in prison all because of a lie.
That was until NewsChannel 3 took action to help free him.
Thursday, a Senate bill that would give Montgomery some financial restitution for the time he spent locked away passed a senate finance subcommittee.
"I think that this is the right thing for the state to do because this is a young man that spent four years of his life in prison for something that he absolutely did not do,” Sen. Mamie Locke, the bill's patron, said.
The General Assembly would still need to approve the bill, but passing the subcommittee today means justice for Montgomery could be coming within the current 45-day session.
