Newport News, Va. - Cody Clarence Kelly, a 20-year-old man, has died after being shot at a Newport News hotel over the weekend.

His friend, 19-year-old Tyjaun Blocket,  has been taken into custody and charged with his death.

Police say they were called to the Microtel Inn on Operations Drive around 9:00 p.m. Saturday for a shooting.

When officers got there, they found Kelly with a gunshot wound in one of the rooms. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:33 p.m.

Police have charged  Blockett for Kelly's death. Police are interviewing several people about what led up to the shooting.

According to witnesses, there was a small gathering in a room at the Microtel Inn. During this gathering, Blockett had a handgun that discharged and killed Kelly.

Police are now sifting through two different stories from two witnesses.

Shawn Patterson, Kelly's sister, wants answers.

"I want the solid truth. Stop mixing stories up 'cause I'm tired of hearing about it," says Patterson.

One witness says Blockett was dancing in the room, while waving a gun in his hand, according to the paperwork.

That's when one shot was fired.

The documents go on to show -- there's another witness who says Kelly and Blockett were seeing who could draw their weapons faster.

Kelly stopped but the criminal complaint says Blockett kept playing.

That's when a shot went off.

Patterson says she hopes in her heart it was an accident.

Investigators say they are comfortable charging Blockett with murder.
