Suffolk, Va. – Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary School had to be placed on lockdown after officials say a man entered the building and refused to leave.

This happened on Monday, February 9th in the 1200 block of Nansemond Parkway.

Calls came in to emergency officials at around 1:36 p.m. saying that a man wearing a blue jacket went into the school’s bathroom and refused to leave.

The school was put on lockdown and the principal was able to get the man to exit the building.

According to a letter sent out to parents, the principal also credits the front door receptionist and the secretaries for helping to take care of this situation.

After leaving, the man was then seen on Portsmouth Boulevard. Police say the man had mental issues and they were able to get him back home safely.

They have not released any other details about this incident.
