Virginia Beach Public Library awarded $66,000 to expand Financial Literacy Program

Virginia Beach Va. – The Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) has been awarded $66,100 to expand the financial literacy programming and services for Virginia Beach residents.

“Life event” workshops will focus on retirement planning, financing higher education, preparing financially for a new child, and managing changes to marital status.

The “Live Simple, Live More” Campaign hopes to help residents become more aware of their financial decisions through on hand activities which include budgeting, saving, and investing.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Investor Education Foundation and American Library Association named VBPL as one of the 21 libraries in the country to receive funding and they plan to partner with other city departments and local organizations to implement the program by July 2015 through Dec. 2016.

The library will focus particularly on senior citizens, military families, women in transitional housing, and people who are disabled with limited incomes.
