Home, vehicle hit by gunfire in Newport News on Sunday night

Newport News, Va. - Newport News Police are investigating after a home and vehicle were hit by gunfire Sunday evening.

Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of 18th Street just before 7:00 p.m. after gunshots were heard in the area.

A witness tells NewsChannel 3 she saw two men come around the corner and begin shooting at each other in the middle of the street.

Erica Davis says her brother and her ran inside when the shooting but says she saw the two men run right by them, shooting at each other as they passed.

Davis says a few minutes after police left the scene, she began hearing more gunfire from the area the two shooters ran to.

A 39-year-old woman told officers that she was inside her home with her four children (ages 11,12,17, and 17) when the shooting started.

The home was hit four times. A vehicle parked by the home was also hit.

Shell casings were recovered across the street from the home.

No injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation. Additional updates will be posted as they become available.
